It's 1914 London, and it's Waldo and Lucinda's wedding day. Unfortunately, Lucinda is nowhere to be found. A messenger boy brings Lucinda's note to her mother - ‘I can’t do it, Mother. So I’ve gone.’ There seems to be some suspicion that an Italian gentleman was somehow involved. The search for Lucinda is interrupted by the First World War, and it's not until the end of the war that she is finally located and her story unfolds.
